HPCUMC
Mentors #18-Center for Peace Education
We've recently heard good things about The Center for Peace
Education that make it yet another good way for HPCUMC to
mentor others. How does this work? Volunteer as a Peace
Pal in order to teach students skills in conflict management.
Give 45 minutes once a week to help students improve their
communication skills, increase problem-solving abilities,
respect and appreciate differences and ultimately learn
how to respond to conflict more constructively.
Great fit for COMMUNITY MEMBERS who can give up their lunch
hour, college students who have workable schedules, retired
folk looking for a meaningful way to spend some of their
time, stay at home moms or dads wanting to volunteer, adults
who work second shift, teachers who can leave during study
hall. The program looks for people who believe in the need
for change and can volunteer during the school day (probably
near downtown) once a week for 45 minutes. You will read
a children's book, lead a discussion and facilitate an activity.
They provide training in basic conflict management skills,
agenda, children's books, discussions, and activities. School
locations are still being determined for this year. For
more information, see www.cincinnati-peace.org or contact
Tanya Batte (221-4863), the Program and Training Director,
who can help answer questions or assist with training for
those who are interested.
