Volunteer Opportunities

There are many opportunities to get involved in the Children Ministries at HPCUMC. The following are just a few of them. If you would like to help in any way, or if you have an idea that you would like to help with, please contact Rev. Megan Large, our Pastor to Young Families at (513) 979-8181 or mlarge@hpcumc.org

  • Sunday Morning Teacher- Traditional classrooms ( 2yrs-Kindergarten )

We ask for a 2x or more month commitment from most of our Sunday morning teachers. We provide a teacher book and any supplies that you may need. Your responsibility would be to look over the lesson ahead of time and decide which portions of the lesson you would like to do with the children. You need to be able to work on a team with other teachers, love children, and be prepared. We can always use teachers at either 9:30 or 11am. We ask that you arrive 15 minutes early and stay until the children have left or the next teacher has come to take your place.

  • 1st-6th Grade Ranger ( 9:30 AM)

Our pilots are caring individuals who like to “be” with elementary children. The expectation is that will stay with one group of children and guide them in the various workshops. Many of our pilots attend as often as possible and are expected to greet the children as they arrive, take attendence, assist the children in their workshops and provide a closing for the children each week. They do not need to plan a lesson ahead of time, but are expected to coordinate with their team of teachers to make sure that there is always someone there.

  • 1st-6th Grade Discovery Zone leader ( 9:30 AM)

Workshop leaders are those who may not feel drawn to a traditional classroom setting, but feel they can provide a special skill to the children. Our current “stations” include Bible Buster Theater, Bible Bytes, Creation Station, Cross-Training, Soul Kitchen, and Temple Tales, but we are always open to new ideas. In the workshops, you typically teach the same lesson 5 weeks in a row to a different age group of children. Sometimes the lesson needs to be altered slightly depending on the age, but it will always be around the same theme. 5th and 6th Grade Fellowship Team Meets on 2nd Sunday's Sepember-May from 6-8:30 PM. We could use caring adults who would enjoy leading a craft, organizing a special event, or just showing up to care about our 5 th and 6 th graders. We welcome new ideas and warm hearts.

Youth Volunteer

There are a variety of ways to get involved with youth ministry. Contact Youth Director, Larry Yates to see where you might fit.

Sunday School Preparation Team

In order to ease the burden for our weekly teachers, we have put together a team that helps gather supplies and keep the classrooms in order. Whatever time you have to give is great! Duties range from making play dough, to going shopping, to working with other volunteers on sorting curriculum or making bulletin boards.

• Hospitality Team

Is willing to write letters, make phone calls or be a friendly face in the halls on Sunday morning. People on this team understand that bringing children to church can be difficult at times and hope to make coming to HPCUMC a positive experience for families. This group will work on welcoming visitors and following up with members.

  • Help with a Special Event

A few times a year we have special events that need some extra help with ideas, organization, set up and tear down. These are short term commitments, but add a tremendous amount of meaning to our children and family ministries. Some examples ofthis are Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School , Animal Fair, and Advent Workshop.
