uMatter Personalizes Options for Young Adults
Intergenerational
and life-stage programming are an HPCUMC hallmark. We strive
to achieve a time when young and old alike choose to “rather
be at church than not.”
HPCUMC’s new uMatter ministry serves up spirituality
for diverse young adults like your favorite barista: A shot
of espresso-charged fellowship that’s light on theology
and topped with sprinkles of service and formation.
Three components comprise uMatter:
uGrow—spiritual
formation
uServe—service and outreach
uGather—fellowship
uMatter member and Senior High Sunday
School teacher Eric Fenner comments: “Our first major
event—a coffeehouse—was a wonderful gathering
with a great mixture of people.” He adds: “We
have such great uPotential!” The 50-plus persons who
attended last month’s event concurred: “uGather
Coffeehouse series offer a great way to connect…This
is a terrific concept!”
The new ministry is coordinated
by seminary student and HPCUMC member Diana McHenry. Senior
Pastor Don Dixon states: “It’s gratifying to
see young adults leading this effort…This group is
blessed with all kinds of gifts, including capable leaders
like Diana…I don’t know where she gets all of
her energy!”
